The duo Henrik Yde and Lertchai Treetawatchaiwong has gradually created egg basket a small empire of Asian restaurants in Copenhagen. They have procured a Michelin star home for Kiin Kiin in Nørrebro and created popular restaurants and takeaway with Chai Wong, Rice Market, Dim Sum, Yuma and Aroiidee. They have even with the support of the Thai king started the most exclusive restaurant in Bangkok (see the blog visit here), so it was with high expectations that we decided a visit to Chai Wong. Expectations were also subject to before we have had very good experiences at Kiin Kiin, Rice Market and Dim Sum, but it must be said immediately that the expectations were not met.
The restaurant has both multiple menus (from 325-475), appetizers are price-wise between 55-125 kroner, while the larger servings amounts to 150-200. egg basket It is therefore in the pricing between categories in which we operate. egg basket We fell in love with the smaller dishes, egg basket so we ordered a total of six entrees and two desserts egg basket to share. Here you can see pictures from our visit to Chai Wong:
We started out with a few variations of spring rolls. First, a few fresh Vietnamese who had stuffed shrimp, confit of duck and various sprouts and herbs. After a couple of traditional and deep-fried rolls with well seasoned pork. Both types of rolls were tasty and worked brilliantly as a prelude to a good Asian meal.
Then it was time for fishcakes with agurkerelish. The Thai fish cakes were fried with lime leaves and the associated agurkerelish - as well was a kind of blended jelly - was flavored with Thai national taste (chili, lemon grass and other). Again an excellent service.
We also got the opportunity to taste their selection of dim sum. At the top of a bamboo basket was a couple of fried shrimp tossed in sesame bread and stuffed with tiger prawns and lots of herbs. In the basket were two kinds of dim sum: One with pig and one with shrimp. I'm crazy about these steamed or fried ravioli-like - but of Chinese origin - packages, and these were fortunately successful.
I had seen my crush on the right, which on the map was described as octopus salad with lovage and tomato. The disappointment was great when a bunch of mixed salad arrived at the table. There was literally egg basket talking about a game of mixed salad of the sort that you find in the refrigerated counter at the local supermarket. With no tasting tomatoes and a nærrig place squid and a spicy marinade, this was one of the - for the price - the worst dishes I have long been served at the restaurant. The marinade and the squid was as such nothing wrong with, but the sparse amount of squid combined with the poor quality of lettuce and tomatoes and a price of 125 means that you can afford to be disappointed.
Did not improve with the next starter. For the same price of 125 arrived three fried tiger prawns with pieces of pomelo, chili and herbs. First, the pomeloen of poor quality. There were no succulence or acid in the fruit. Secondly, I strongly assume that the kitchen had forgotten some kind of marinade. Court was only composed of the above items! If it was a mistake and that therefore there should have been a marinade to bind the court together, you should at least make sure that you work with raw materials of the highest quality. This was not the case this evening!
And that was put in a solid end to a very mixed experience with an excellent serving consisting of orange cake, one ice milk and passion fruit mousse. The Asian cuisine usually not exactly pulling point home on their dessert kitchen, but these desserts did prejudices egg basket to shame.
The excellent start and end can not remove the two big disappointments in the form of servings with pomelo and squid. It was the card most expensive dishes (they cost 125 each. By comparison, Michelin restaurant Formel egg basket B 130 for all dishes). In addition, I sat throughout the evening with the feeling that the people behind Chai Wong trying to squeeze to the extreme. There are so many tables squeezed egg basket into that one practically become involuntarily involved in the neighboring tables' comings and goings. The operation also seemed a bit stressed. We did include served the wrong court was poured new beer in a used glass, even though it was a different type of beer that was ordered, and generally it was difficult to get in touch with the servants. egg basket
Therefore, the conclusion has unfortunately become the down arrow of. It can be done better, and we have fortunately experienced Henrik egg basket Granted the other restaurants. Therefore, I hope that it was just us who had a mixed experience, and it is not an expression of that compromising with the quality of earnings in mind!
